on the subject of…..optimism

One of the various little habits I formed over the years was to always try to get out for a run on the 1st day of each month – a small statement of intent for the coming month. And today I did that for the first time since the 1st May last year – so that’s a positive !!!

Since I last posted in January, I’ve had an MRI scan which revealed nothing relevant and the doctor has ruled out sciatic problems, but the discomfort in the pelvis when attempting to run has continued to plague me. Clocking up a meagre total of 58 uncomfortable miles in the first quarter of the year, it’s time to try something new. In the past few days I’ve started some regular stretching exercises and even a little bit of beginners yoga, and have just run for a third successive day – for a total of 12 miles! Certainly not pain free, but bearable at a desperately slow pace. After almost a year in the doldrums I’m feeling really keen to get going again, and as another small statement of intent, I’ve entered a couple of races in early July. I’m hoping that the small improvement I’m feeling which I’m happy to put down to the new stretching / yoga regime, combined with the motivation of trying to get some sort of “race fit”, will be all I need to get back on track ???

Here’s hoping – all the best, Kim
