Every winter despite the actual evidence, I persist with the foolish idea that as soon as we hit the 1st March all the bad weather is behind us and it’s wall to wall sunshine for the next eight months. I wrote the short poem below a couple of days ago, when that thought was still on my mind. I’ve delayed posting it as I’ve been waiting all day for the sleet and hail to stop !!!
March
The first of March is the real New Year’s day
Winter is over, let’s go out and play
Footpaths and trails that have been out of bounds
Are calling you back onto much firmer ground
———–
It’s so much less tough getting out for a run
As you really start feeling the warmth of the sun
And looking back now, you can silently thank
All those hard winter miles that you put in the bank
———-
Running in sunshine always feels great
By the end of the month there’ll be daylight ‘til eight
Put the thick, heavy winter gear back in it’s place
‘cause it’s time to speed up and get ready to race !
