o.t.s.o…..the 3 Castles update

Having decided on a whim to have a go at the 3 Castles ultra run 6 weeks ago, I’ve averaged just 28 miles per week since then, with the highest mileage week being 40 miles, and the longest single run being 17 miles (only just over half the race distance). So with just a couple of days to go before the race on Saturday, I couldn’t be accused of overdoing the preparation for it !!!

This is only the second running of the event, with about 140 people contesting last year’s inaugural run. However, this year the race has attracted a huge entry of approximately 500 runners who will set off from the shadow of Rochester Castle in two waves – I’ll be in the first wave at 09.00, the second wave follows at 09.30. Among the field will be no fewer than 14 clubmates from Paddock Wood AC, so plenty of local interest. Everyone will be wearing a tracker device, so for anyone interested, log in to https://live.opentracking.co.uk/3castles5025/ to keep up with live updates on how everyone is progressing.

I suspect that my lack of preparation will catch up with me as the race unfolds and I’m anticipating that the last 12 miles or so beyond Yalding could be a bit of a challenge. Despite that, I’m really looking forward to the prospect of a great point-to-point journey along the river on Saturday, and a lap of the track at Tonbridge to finish with, regardless of how long it might take. At time of writing, the weather forecast is for a lovely warm sunny day, so no complaints there. I’ll try and take some pictures along the way to post after the event. Can’t wait….!!!
