Hi – My name’s Kim Stanley – I’m 68 years old and for about 55 of those years, the simple sport of running has been one of the great loves of my life.
As a little kid, I loved running in the once a year primary school sports day, or the 30 yard dash at the annual village fete. Later on, into secondary school things became a bit more regular and organised, with track running in the summer and cross country in the winter. Fast forward (but not very fast) a few years and I joined a club – Tonbridge AC, and from then onward I started competing in as many races as I could lay my hands on. 40+ years later, I’m still a club member, with Paddock Wood AC, following many years with Tunbridge Wells Harriers, and I still race pretty often.
I never possessed any talent, but in the younger days I was usually a bit nearer the front than the back when racing, and just loved the nervous excitement that I felt as the start of a race approached. 50 + years later, for some reason, I still feel that sensation before a race. It’s time I talked about it…………..
I’ll add new posts regularly – If anything you read sparks any interest, or prompts a question – please get in touch via the contact page.
