on the subject of…..coming back

Today has felt like a really good day.

Over the past year there have been quite a few times where I thought my running was pretty much finished, and the prospect of racing again seemed remote to say the least. The various investigations into the pain I was suffering every time I attempted to run, drew a complete blank – other than to confirm that they couldn’t identify the cause. Only after 9 months of almost total inactivity was I given some specific exercises to do, and after a short while, the pain started to ease. From feeling the pain within 50 yards of starting, things gradually improved to a point where in the past couple of weeks, I was getting to about 3 miles before any significant discomfort kicked in. So why is today so good ?

I took a chance a few weeks back, and gave myself a target to focus on – The Cliffe Woods 5 mile road race. It has become a favourite race of mine over the past few years, and this morning I completed in in only minor discomfort, in a very unspectacular time, but having done no training worthy of the name in the past year it felt great.

I can’t begin to describe how good being “back in the game” felt this morning on a beautiful rural road course in glorious sunshine – happy days !

Mid-Kent 5 mile road race in Staplehurst next Sunday – can’t wait !!!
