o.t.s.o…..on the road again !

Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had a series of running injury problems – hip, pelvis, both knees – which seemed to have put an end to my running days. By early May of this year I had become completely unable to run a step without severe knee pain, so I accepted the reality and didn’t attempt anything for a few months. Although I expected to suffer a bit during the three days of the Welsh 3000s walk (reports elsewhere), I was relieved and very surprised to get through that pain free and unscathed. So in early August I could no longer resist trying a nervous jog of a few hundred yards to see if the pain was still there. No pain! A few more very short, very slow jogs were still pain free until I pulled a calf muscle and then contracted a painful bout of shingles at the end of the month, which quickly put a stop to my renaissance.

With the added incentive of maybe joining Jack and Maud in a 10k race in November, I resumed again in late September, managing 3 runs of 5k whilst on holiday in Spain and felt more optimistic than at any time in the past two years. I’ve created a basic training plan to try and get the three of us in some sort of shape for the race, and so far it’s all going to plan. More than anything, I just wanted to post the fact that, having well and truly believed that I wouldn’t run again, over the past 3 months I seem to have overcome the various injuries that have plagued me for the past couple of years and am back on the road again. Happy days !!!

All the best – Kim
