A short poem for each of the 12 calendar months to give just a flavour of how running changes as the cycle of the year rolls around.
December
There’s no avoiding winter’s chill
the damp dark days grow shorter still
you dream of longer warmer days
and come they surely will…..
You have to make a choice this month
to train in the usual way ?
Or just take it easy and wind down for once
then restart again New Year’s Day ?
————————————————————————————————————
But if you can be tough,
run those long country miles
on grey gloomy days
it will all be worthwhile
Stay fit through the winter
and here’s the best thing
you’ll be laying the foundations
of a great race in spring
————————————————————————————————————
Reflect on the year
that’s soon to end
did you do all
you hoped you would do ?
Achieve all the distances,
races and times
If you did, then
you’re one of the few !
————————————————————————————————————
But if you just managed
to run through the year
and kept yourself
healthy and fit
Don’t worry too much
about what Santa brings
you’ve had the best gift
you could get
————————————————————————————————————
And don’t get upset
if you didn’t quite tick
every box
you intended to do
You know that the new year
is just days away
with fresh challenges
waiting for you !
Merry Christmas !!!
