Penshurst 2026

In its short 3 year history, the midsummer relay at Penshurst Place hosted by Tonbridge AC has become an extremely popular fixture in the athletics calendar, and for me one of the favourite races of the whole year. Blessed for the 3rd successive year with glorious weather, the whole evening is just full of good vibes! The capacity of 160 teams had been reached a while before race day, so a very busy evening for the organisers.

As usual the host club Tonbridge AC were out in strength and ended up winning all the 3 main categories – male, female & mixed teams.

1st Male team – Tonbridge AC – 40’14”, 1st Female team – Tonbridge AC 44’15, 1st mixed team – Tonbridge AC – 41’11” (this placed the mixed team in 3rd place overall!)

Fastest laps of the night: Male – Dillon Hobbs – Tunbridge Wells Harriers – 12’41” Female – Phoebe Barker – Tonbridge AC – 13’58”

My club, Paddock Wood AC fielded 9 teams on the day, the first male team coming in 18th overall in 46’51” with Joe Gower’s 15’13” quickest, the first female team in 58th in 54’01” with a 17’05 from Elysia Wright, and our first mixed trio home in 68th in 55’58”

PWAC group – My team mates Saskia Lawrence 116A(centre) & Leandra Van Wijk 116C (extreme right)

I was in PW mixed team B and we came home in 67 minutes. Here are a few more shots of the evening:

And finally, with many thanks to photographer Mark Hookway for his excellent pictures, a picture that captures the feel of the evening…
